Ahmedabad: The world’s largest cricket ground, Motera Cricket Stadium, has been renamed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The ground will now be known as Narendra Modi Stadium, announced Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The world’s largest cricket stadium was inaugurated by President Ramnath Kovind. Amit Shah, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel were present on the occasion. (Motera stadium will now be called Narendra Modi stadium)

The third Test match between India and England (India VS England 3rd Test) is being played at this largest ground today. Motera Stadium is completely new.

It has a seating capacity of 1 lakh 32 thousand spectators. The history of this stadium is old. The Gujarat government had donated 50 acres of land to build the Motera Stadium. The Motera stadium was built in 1982. Cricket matches were played at this stadium after 1983.

As CM, he used to say Gujaratis must also progress in 2 fields-sports & armed forces. He took charge of GCA on my request & promoted sports here. His vision was that the world’s largest cricket stadium be built here. This 1,32,000-seater stadium will be known as Narendra Modi Stadium:

However, in 2015, cricket matches were stopped at the venue to change its appearance. The stadium has been completely renovated. Rs 750 crore has been spent for this. It took more than 4 years to complete the new construction of this stadium.

Highlights of the Motera Cricket Stadium

Normally any stadium has 2 dressings. But Motera has a whopping 4 dressing rooms. Each dressing room has a well-equipped gym. The stadium has a total of 55 clubhouses. It includes 3 practice grounds and 50 rooms.

The stadium also has a swimming pool built for the Olympics. The stadium also has an indoor cricket academy, badminton, tennis courts, table-tennis arena, squash arena, and a theater with 3D projectors.

The stadium used LED lights instead of floodlights. It doesn’t look like a shadow. Often the players were hindered by the shadows during the match.

Motera Stadium has 11 pitches instead of 4-6. There are three different types of pitches, red, black, and both types of soil. Some of these are fast bowlers and some are spin bowlers. The pitch can be selected according to the need of the competition and the match.

The number of spectators on the field

The stadium is built on a total of 63 acres on the banks of Sabarmati river. The number of spectators in this stadium was said to be around 1 lakh 10 thousand. But today, Amit Shah claimed that this number could accommodate 1 lakh 32 thousand spectators. In terms of spectator numbers, Motera has surpassed Australia’s MCG, the Melbourne Cricket Ground. MC has an audience of 1 lakh.

It is a matter of pride for all of us countrymen that this stadium of Motera has become the largest cricket stadium in the world today with a capacity of one lakh thirty-two thousand spectators.
